Maintaining Your Crystal Chandelier

While crystal chandeliers are a spectacular addition to any home, they do require a bit of maintenance and upkeep to look their best.  Regular cleaning will keep the crystals clear and will help your chandelier look its best for years to come.

The biggest challenge to keeping your chandelier clean is that it is hung from the ceiling, and is well above your head.  Reaching the chandelier to clean it can be tricky, but it is important to keep your chandelier clean so you can enjoy its full beauty.

The proper way to clean a crystal chandelier is to remove each crystal one by one and clean them by hand individually.  You can clean them with a soft clean cloth and non abrasive cleaner.  As you remove and clean each crystal, you must replace it in the exact location it was in.  The crystals on the chandelier are often cut differently and are made for a specific location to best reflect the light.

If your chandelier isn’t overly dirty and you are pressed for time, it is possible to clean your crystal chandelier without removing each individual crystal.  To do this, mix a solution of one part isopropyl alcohol to three parts distilled water.  Distilled water will not leave streaks.  Spray the solution all over the surface of the chandelier in smooth, even sprays.  The alcohol in the solution will evaporate, leaving you with a clean, streak free chandelier.

Regular cleaning of your crystal chandeliers will keep it looking its best and shining brilliantly down on your space.  Remember, maintaining a clean chandelier is much easier than cleaning a dirty chandelier!
